United States presidential election, 2004, in Virginia

Virginia is considered as a red state, having voted for the Republican candidate in all presidential elections since 1952 except during 1964's democratic landslide.
President George W. Bush won here by a comfortable margin, with a 8.20% lead over democratic senator John Kerry, a tiny increase since his victory of 2000 against Al Gore. However, for the first time in decades, Fairfax County, the biggest county in the commonwealth, voted for the democratic candidate, meaning that Virginia may become less reliably Republican in the next decades.
