Josif Stalin ? (Russian, in full: Иосиф Виссарионович Сталин (Iosif Vissarionovich Stalin), born Джугашвили (Dzhugashvili), Georgian: იოსებ ჯუღაშვილი (Ioseb Jughashvili); (December 18 [O.S. December 6] 1878 – March 5, 1953) was an adopted name of the Communist dictator, Ioseb Jugashvili (December 18, 1878 – March 5, 1953). He was the second political leader of the Soviet Union, after Vladimir Lenin. He was a totalitarian ruler, and he is infamous in history. Stalin led the Soviet Union through hard times. He started a purge, and caused hundreds of thousands to be put to death. Although the total number of comanders and officers tripled. He started his own form of communism, Stalinism. He made his country very strong. In fact, the Soviet Union was very important for defeating Germany in World War II. They had more casualties than any other country during the war.
After World War II, the Soviet army, which had helped win the war, was in many countries of Europe such as Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, and part of Germany. Stalin commanded this army, so after the war he ruled over these countries. (This lasted until the end of the Cold War). He also continued to rule over the Soviet Union, until he died.
Stalin was very powerful in his Communist part of the world until he died in 1953 of a stroke.
