Hezbollah
From Wikipedia, a free encyclopedia written in simple English for easy reading.
Hezbollah (Arabic: [[[[حزب الله, meaning Party of God) is a political party and Islamic group that was formed in Lebanon in 1982. It was created to fight the Israeli Defense Forces who were in Lebanon until 2000. As of August 2006, Israeli forces are again in Lebanon. Hezbollah is a Shia group that is supported by Syria and Iran and hope to create a state like Iran in Lebanon. Some believe that they have ties with Al-Quaeda. Hezbollah recently kidnapped two Israeli soldiers. This led to a conflict between Israel and Hezbollah and to the invasion of Lebanon by Israel.
Some countries see Hezbollah as a terrorist organisation, others do not. Among those who consider it to be terrorist are the United States and Israel, among those who do not are the European Union and Russia. Lebanon sees Hizbollah as a legitimate resistance movement. This view is shared by Syria, Iran and a few other countries in the Arab World.
