[edit] History

WTNZ signed on December 31, 1983 as WKCH-TV (nicknamed "Catch 43"), an independent station.

In 1986, WKCH-TV affiliated with Fox, nicknaming as "Catch Fox 43 WKCH". In 1994, it changed its call letters to WTNZ.

Despite the network musical chairs that occurred in Knoxville over the years, WTNZ has been Knoxville's only Fox affiliate during the network's history. It is also Tennessee's longest-serving Fox affiliate, because in 1990 WZTV became Nashville's Fox affiliate, while WPTY in Memphis traded networks with WHBQ five years later.
