[edit] The event

The 1992 Embassy World Snooker Championship took place at the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield between the 18 April and 4 May 1992.

Stephen Hendry was the eventual winner of the 1992 Embassy World Championship after an 18-14 win over Jimmy White. Jimmy Whited led 14-8 and was a red and colour away from winning the next. He missed, only for Stephen Hendry to win the frame and the next 9. It is regarded as one of Jimmy White's best chances of winning the World Championship.

One consolation for White was that he became only the second player ever to compile a 147 break at the Crucible (during his 10-4 first round win over Tony Drago), nine years after the classic Cliff Thorburn maximum in 1983

There were 25 century breaks in the 1992 World Snooker Championship. White's 147 was the second in the Crucible's history.

[edit] Trivia

  • The 10 frames Stephen Hendry won in the World Final to go from 8-14 behind to win 18-14 is still the most frames any player has ever won in a row in a Crucible World Final.
  • Winning the last ten frames of his final against Jimmy White, and the first 9 frames of his first round encounter with Danny Fowler in 1993, Hendry won 19 frames in a row, which is the most frames anyone has ever won in a row over two Crucible's combined.
  • The 10-0 win of defending champion John Parrott over Eddie Charlton is the only whitewash in the history of the Crucible.
