Nirvana (band)

Nirvana was an important rock band in the 1990s. They first got together in 1987 in the town of Aberdeen, Washington. This town is near Seattle, Washington, USA. Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains are other bands like Nirvana. They made up the main part of the alternative type of "grunge." This type of music is also called "Seattle sound".
In Nirvana, Kurt Cobain was a guitar player and singer. He also wrote many of their songs. Krist Novoselic played bass, and Dave Grohl played drums. Many people liked Nirvana's 1991 album Nevermind.This album had the song "Smells Like Teen Spirit". In April of 1994, Cobain killed himself and Nirvana ended. Grohl later started another band called the Foo Fighters. He still plays music today. Novoselic has been in other bands. He has also been interested in politics. For a short time, he tried to become Lieutenant Governor of Washington in 2004.
