Manikeisme

Manikeismen var en religiøs lære som skrev seg tilbake til Mani, en religiøs forkynner i Persia på 200-tallet etter Kristus.
Han var opprinnelig medlem av en jødisk-kristen bevegelse. Han påstod å ha mottatt flere åpenbaringer og fremholdt sin lære for sasaniderkongen Shapur I. Han fikk tillatelse til å forkynne sin lære over hele landet. Senere, under kong Bahram I, ble forkynnelsen møtt med motstand og han ble til sist satt i fengsel og døde der.
Mani betraktet seg som den siste i en rekke profeter som bestod av Buddha, Zarathustra og Jesus. Han ønsket å forkynne sin lære til hele menneskeheten, og skrev selv en rekke bøker på arameisk og middelpersisk. Han hadde svært gode kunnskaper om religioner i sin samtid, medregnet kristendommen og mahayana-buddhismen.
