इन्जिनियरिङ (अभियांत्रिकीशास्त्र) भनेको मानविय समस्या समाधानका लागि प्रबधिको प्रयोग गरिने विज्ञान हो। More specifically, इन्जिनियरिङ एक ब्यबसायिक कार्य हो जसमा सोच, judgement, and intelligence प्रयोग गरिन्छ in the application of बिज्ञान, प्रबिधि, गणित, and प्रयोगात्मक अनुभव to design, उत्पादन, and operate useful objects or processes that meet the needs and desires of मानबता. इन्जिनियरिङको ब्यबसायिक प्राविधिकलाई इन्जिनियर भनिन्छ।
As a noun, "engineering" is also the collective body of available technological tools, activities, knowledge, and processes.
Engineering is a big discipline, and it has many sub-disciplines. E.g.:
- A civil engineer would build a bridge or design a road system.
- An electrical engineer would design or build an electronic device.
- A mechanical engineer would design machines or things that move, like sportcars. In addition, mechanical engineers are concerned with designs for electricity generating stations, petrochemical process units, and other plants using mechanical components such as boilers, turbines, pumps, fans, piping, and valves.
- A software engineer would design and write software for computers, like Windows.
- An aerospace engineer would design a space vehicle or airplane. Many non-engineers think rocket science is something difficult. However, it is not more difficult than any other engineering.
- Materials Engineering deals with the design and fabrication of materials suitable with its application and environment.
- Mycro-system engineering based on the fabrication and design of various types of micro and nano structures and systems.
