WPXC-TV is the i (formerly Pax) television station in the Jacksonville, Florida market, but licenced to serve Brunswick, Georgia. Owned by ion Media Networks (formerly Paxson Communications), the station broadcasts on channel 21. In addition, the station has a low power repeater in Jacksonville, WPXJ-LP, on channel 54.

[edit] History

The station began on August 13, 1988 as independent WBSG-TV. By 1995, the station had become a charter WB affiliate. However, the station was later purchased by Allbritton Communications and so in 1996 the station took over the ABC affiliation, along with WJXX, in order for Allbritton to retain the network on its other stations. Unfortunately, this unique arrangement couldn't succeed because of WBSG's Georgia broadcast location and WJXX's signal troubles and so channel 25 was spun to Gannett, while channel 21 would be sold to Paxson Communications. As a result in 2001, WBSG dropped ABC in favor of Pax (now i in 2005) under the WPXC-TV callsign.
