You employ stone, wood and concrete, and with these materials you build houses and palaces: that is construction. Ingenuity is at work. But suddenly you touch my heart, you do me good. I am happy and I say: "This is beautiful. That is Architecture. Art enters in......" Le Corbusier, Vers une architecture, 1923

Hello! Are you interested in architecture? Do you think it is important to impart knowledge about architecture? Then we would like to invite you to help us in this Project!

An important note for everyone to remember: This project develops ideas about how we might organise data in articles about architecture. These are only suggestions, things to give you focus and to get you going, and you shouldn't feel obligated in the least to follow them. But if you don't know what to write or where to begin, following the below guidelines may be helpful. Mainly, we just want you to write articles!

The current Monthly Architecture Article Improvement Drive is Architecture of ancient Sri Lanka.
Every month a different Architecture-related topic, stub or non-existent article is picked.
Please read the nomination text and improve the article in any way you can.

Feel free to add anything you think might be of interest.
1. Wikipedia currently has no notability policy for buildings - If anyone is interested in formulating such a policy, please contact User talk :Mcginnly.
2. Proposals are underway for the redesign of {{Modernarch}} and {{Regional-arch}}.
Essentially they have been redesigned to be a full page width wide rather than the current "right hand panel" style which interfered with
image placement in articles.
Your comments would be very welcome and then we'll need to fix the formatting of all the current articles that hold these templates.
3. Portal:Architecture/New article announcements has been created to keep us all in touch with any new architecture articles we create,
please add any you've created recently.

[edit] Using starter templates

The starter templates listed below can assist you by setting up standard headings and infoboxes in your article. To use them follow this procedure:

  1. Create a blank article having first considered the the information above concerning naming conventions and relevance.
  2. Copy the following text and paste it into the blank article:
    1. {{subst:Architect}} for articles about architects
    2. {{subst:Modern building}} for articles about buildings begun on or after 1900
    3. {{subst:Historic building}} for articles about buildings begun before 1900
  3. Save the article
  4. Edit the article again, and add the text for your article under the headings that are created.

[edit] Collaboration of the month

November 2006

A horribly written and formatted article, but with a substantial amount of content and probably an important topic.

  • Support Rich forms and technically sophisticated construction make Sri Lankan architecture notable in the region. This article is interesting in that there is some good information that is currently organized and presented in a confusing manner. It seems possible that modest attention could yield great improvements. -- M0llusk 04:59, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
  • Support I'll look for some images to add, etc. — Dogears 17:37, 6 August 2006 (UTC)
  • Support --Mcginnly | Natter 12:24, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

It looks like the article has been derived from another website (if look at the talk, there is a template saying this) Abdullah Geelah 13:07, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

Current nominations

[edit] Architectural history

This should really be one of our showcase articles, but it's currently very western-centric and needs formatting, copyediting, images, sections completing and general polishing.

  • Support and nominate.--Mcginnly | Natter 12:47, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
  • Oppose
  • Comment- I've been thinking about this one a lot. One thing I see as most important for this article is the study of architectural historians and their texts, much more than the progression of buildings or styles or locations. Since this subject is so broad, what I would like to see this article avoid are heading/main article games, and because so much on the different topics is covered elsewhere this article only needs to cover history and historians and not every architect, building or movement. DVD+ R/W 21:35, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Kunsthaus Graz

Peter Cook building without an article even started yet - A good example of Blobitecture, with some images from the commons (currently located in Blobitecture). --Mcginnly | Natter 13:08, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

  • Support ok, this article is started. But for the improvement drive I would choose Blobitecture rather than this specific building, though Kunsthaus Graz will probably be further developed along the way if Blob architecture is selected. DVD+ R/W 00:32, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Maggie's centres

Important patron of architecture in the UK. Set up by Charles Jencks and his late wife, Maggie's centre provide support for cancer sufferers and acknowledge the psychological benefits that architecture can bring to their treatment. Gehry, Hadid, Libeskind, Rogers have all either done schemes that are awaiting funding or have completed projects. --Mcginnly | Natter 11:50, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
