UK BrightIdeas was launched on 15th January 2003 as a lifestyle channel for the Freeview digital terrestrial television platform. Along with the rest of the UKTV network, the "UK" prefix was changed to "UKTV" on 8th March 2004 and is thus now known as UKTV Bright Ideas. The channel prior to launch was originally going to be called UK HomeStyle.[2]
The channel is available on digital terrestrial television (Freeview), Satellite (BSkyB) and Cable platforms.
This channel shows originally produced programmes that originally aired on UKTV Food and UKTV Style and are thus mainly cookery, DIY and gardening. However, in January 2005, it began showing programmes branded by UKTV Sport. The UKTV Sport brand is only usually used on UKTV G2, but was extended onto UKTV BrightIdeas to gain more viewers. However, there have been less sports programmes on UKTV BrightIdeas since February 2006.
