Som første led i Roger Waters overtagelse af Pink Floyd, fandt udgivelsen af albummet "Animals" sted tilbage i 1977. Ikke blot er dette et af Pink Floyd's mest dystre album, men samtidig er det også en næsten uhyggelig beskrivelse af, hvordan alle mennesker kan deles ind i tre grupper - repræsenteret af hvert sit dyr med hver sin sang: Hunde (sangen "Dogs"), som er arbejderne, der nu er trætte af at bære læsset, og som nu gør oprør. Grisene (sangen "Pigs (Three Different Ones)"), som er moralisterne i samfundet, såsom politikere og andre højere stående, og om hvordan de (mis-)bruger deres magt. Og endelig har vi fårene (sangen "Sheep"), som er alle dem, der ikke passer ind i de to andre grupper. Albummet cirkuleres med sine tre primære sange på hver over ti minutters spillelængde ("Dogs" endda på 17 minutter!) af de to gladere sange "Pigs On The Wings" - Part 1 og 2.
