Ante Pavelić

Ante Pavelic (Ante Pavelić) fou un polític croata nascut el 14 de juliol de 1889 a Bradina (Bòsnia i Hercegovina).
Membre del Partit dels drets, va fer part de la facció mes nacionalista de Josip Frank. El 1919 fou secretari del Partit pur del drets, i fou breument detingut el 1921. El 1927 fou elegit pel consell municipal de Zagreb.
Al establir-se la dictadura del rei el 1929 va fundar el moviment nacionalista d’extrema dreta Ústaixa, a la clandestinitat. El 1934 el seu grup va assassinar a França al rei Alexandre I de Iugoèslavia, i Ante Pavelic, que era a Itàlia, fou detingut altre cop per poc temps.
Fou nomenat líder (Poglavnik) de l'Estat independent de Croàcia el 1941 i va governar fins el 1945. Durant el seu govern es va reprimir als comunistes i es van fer campanyes contra jueus, gitanos i serbis. El maig de 1945 va fugir cap Alemanya (a Àustria) i després a Itàlia on fou amagat pels seus partidaris italians, i tot i que els americans van conèixer la seva estança, no va ser detingut. Vers el 1946 va fugir a l'Argentina, on va ser protegit per Perón
El 1957 va patir un intent d’assassinat per part del txetnik serbi Blagoje Jokovic. Llavors va fugir a Espanya on va ser protegit per Franco.
Va morir a Madrid el 28 de desembre de 1959.
