Бужани

БУЖÁНИ – одне із східнослов’янських племен (можливо, союз племен), яке впродовж 8-10 ст. проживало на території західноукраїнських земель у басейні р. Західний Буг, від якої і походить його назва. Згадки про Б. містяться у давньоруських літописах ("Повість минулих літ") та іноземних хроніках ("Баварський анонім" 10 ст.) Письмові джерела свідчать про існування на землях, заселених Б., близько 230 укріплених городищ (типу замків). Деякі дослідники вважають, що бужани і волиняни раніше називалися дулібами. Після того, як у 9-10 ст. бужани увійшли до складу Київської Русі, в давніх писемних джерелах вони більше не згадуються. Головними центрами бужан були Буськ (літописний Бужеськ), Белз та ін.
