Ма́рк Авре́лій —
1) Марк Елій Аврелій Вер Цезар (121—180) — римський імператор [[[161]]—180] дин. Антонінів. Постійні війни А. (162—166—з Парфією за Месопотамію; 167—180 — з квадами, маркоманами, сарматами; 172—173 — придушення повстання буколів у Єгипті), а також епідемії поглибили соціально-економічну кризу імперії. Видатний представник філософії стоїцизму, А. свої погляди виклав у цінній і досі книзі «До самого себе» (рос. перекл.—М., 1914).
2) Марк Аврелій Антонін (Каракала; р. н. невід.— †217) — римський імператор (211—217). Відомий тим, що поширив права громадянства на все вільне населення імперії (212).
