The Daily Telegraph ble opprettet i 1855 og er en av de to siste britiske avisene i storformat, ved siden av «the Financial Times». «The Daily Telegraphs» søsterutgave, «The Sunday Telegraph» ble grunnlagt i 1961. I november 2005 var «The Daily Telegraph» Storbritannias bestselgende avis i storformat, med et daglig salg på 904 955, sammenlignet med 692 581 for «The Times», 261 193 for «The Independent» og 378 618 for «The Guardian».
