"Greensleeves" on perinteinen englantilainen kansanlaulu. Yleisen uskomuksen mukaan laulun sävelsi Englannin kuningas Henrik VIII (1491 - 1547) rakastajattarelleen ja tulevalla kuningattarelle, Anne Boleynille. Anne kuitenkin torjui kuninkaan viettely-yritykset, mihin "Greensleeves" -laulussakin viitataan. Ei tiedetä, onko uskomus totta ja onko Henrik VIII todella "Greensleevesin" säveltäjä, mutta vielä nykyäänkin laulu liitetään usein Anne Boleyniin. Laulu levisi todennäköisesti käsin kirjoitetussa muodossa jo kauan ennen kuin se painettiin.

"Greensleevesin" sanoituksesta on monia muunnoksia. Ensimmäinen painettu versio alkaa:

Leonard Cohen teki oman muunnelmansa "Greensleevesistä" nimellä "Leaving Green Sleeves". Kappale julkaistiin vuonna 1974 Cohenin levyllä New Skin for the Old Ceremony.

Vuonna 1962 The Smothers Brothers levytti oman, nykyaikaisen versionsa uudella sanoituksella. He antoivat kappaleelle nimeksi "Where the Lilac Grows" ja sisällyttivät sen The Two Sides of the Smothers Brothers -levylleen
