Category talk:Wikipedians who trust Jimbo

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a bumper sticker rather than a category, no? Charles Matthews 10:22, 23 December 2005 (UTC)

Agree. I'm sorely tempted to create Category:Wikipedians who distrust Jimbo. I might next week if this is not put up for deletion. (I have an introduction planned for it even, but it'd probably get me reamed)--T. Anthony 12:59, 2 January 2006 (UTC)
Someone beat me to it. Category:Wikipedians who do not trust Jimbo is up. It's more sophomoric than I would go for, but oh well. Hopefully they'll both be gone soon.--T. Anthony 07:47, 5 January 2006 (UTC)
Sophomoric? I'd slap you if you weren't right. But please, feel free to mess around with the intro and box. Deltabeignet 05:53, 6 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Why I changed the category back

Two reasons:

  1. Trusting Jimbo is central to the encyclopedia and an affirmation of our ideals (particularly m:Foundation issues). It deserves to be in the top of Category:Wikipedians.
  2. The others in Category:Wikipedians by opinion of Jimbo aren't used--so why are they there, and why the overall category? There's some sort of misguided notion of NPOV at work here, or maybe just a dislike for the sentiment expressed.

But if you disagree, let's discuss. -- SCZenz

On 1 if trusting him is central then this place is next to worthless. Encyclopedias aren't dictatorships or vanity creations for one guy. I work on this to learn and because I think in principle this project has some value. I don't trust Jimbo, how could I? I don't even know Jimbo. If trusting someone most of us have never met is so central than this place is problemattic at best. No respectable encyclopedia would require you brown-nose the editor.(Becaus that's what this essentially) On 2 the others are used now. I'm amazed people were willing to have a half-way serious "I don't trust Jimbo" deal on their user-page, but this place seems to believe in freedom of speech so good for them I guess. Ideally I'd prefer all these trust/distrust Jimbo categories be gone, but if one survives they all should survive.--T. Anthony 12:58, 21 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] BARF

enough said. can't believe this survived cfd. Derex 01:57, 21 January 2006 (UTC)

Amusingly, Jimbo removed himself from this category. Derex 03:33, 22 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] I say we delete it

This is clearly worshiping Jimbo Wales. The other category, Wikipedians who do not trust Jimbo Wales got deleted. This is POV, and in my mind, censorship. Someone slap a delete tag on it, please. I am disgusted by the onesidedness of this. Эйрон Кинни 04:53, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

I feel the same way. Cedars 04:08, 22 February 2006 (UTC)
I do too, but it survived CfD last time. I've kind of realized revering Jimbo is a POV that's essentially endorsed or even required. (Part of why I started scaling back)--T. Anthony 07:00, 27 February 2006 (UTC)
