The Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship (Polish: Województwo warmińsko-mazurskie) is an administrative region, or voivodeship, of northeastern Poland. Its capital is Olsztyn. It has an area of 24,202 km² and a population of 1,460,900
It was created January 1, 1999, out of the former Olsztyn Voivodeship and parts of Suwałki and Elbląg Voivodeships, pursuant to the Local Government Reorganization Act of 1998. The voivodeship's name recalls the region's two historic lands, Warmia and Masuria, and is also referred to in Polish as Warmia i Mazury.
The voivodeship is south of Russia's Kaliningrad Oblast. Most of the area was once the southern part of East Prussia.
