Wake Forest Student Government (known as SG) works under a semi-Presidential system.

The core component is the General Assembly, which acts as a student legislature. The General Assembly is made up of legistors, represented and voted by each residence hall. The legislators are assigned within one of six committees to specialize in a particular area of student needs.

The committees are:

  • Academic
  • Appropriations and Charter
  • Campus Life
  • Judicial
  • Public Relations
  • Physical Planning

Student Government's interests generally focus on improving the student college experience such as enhancing the meal plan, organizing social events, and improving academic policies. Unlike many other schools, there is no "Greek domination" or political party presence, allowing for a relatively balanced representation and open access to Student Government .

The top leadership consists of the 5 officers known as the Executive. All of them except for the Chief of Staff is popularly elected by the student body during the end of the Spring Semester.

The SG President acts as the spokesperson for the student body and SG. The President usually sits on important high level meetings by the school administration to act as the student voice. The President has no direct powers with managing the General Assembly and the legislators, but the individual can influence and coordinate with it via various means. The President is also bound to report to the General Assembly about his activities and be influenced by it. In this respect the President is attached to the General Assembly, but also somewhat acts as an independent entity.

The Speaker of the House is the head of the General Assembly.

The Treasurer is responsible for issuing and monitoring funds for both SG and the 160 chartered student organizations.

The Secretary is responsible for monitors the attendance of the legislators and serves as the office manager.

The Chief of Staff serves as the President's aid and advisor. The individual is appointed by the President.

All of the Executives have the power to start their own independent initiatives (special projects) and ask for volunteers among the legislators of the General Assembly for aid in manpower.

There are two auxiliary positions appointed by the Speaker of the House to aid in the maintenance of the General Assembly. They are:

  • Speaker Pro Tempore

Assumes the powers and responsibilities of Speaker of the House during the Speaker's absence

Makes sure that Robert's rules of order are adhered to and settling precedural disputes
