Ice Hockey Division II World Championships - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ice Hockey Division II World Championships

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ice Hockey Division II World Championships are an annual sports event organized by the International Ice Hockey Federation. The division championships are played in two groups.

The two national teams that finish last in their groups at the Ice Hockey Division I World Championships are relegated to Division II for next year's world championships. At the Division II championships, the winner of each group is promoted to next year's Ice Hockey Division I Championships, while the loser of each group is relegated to the Ice Hockey Division III World Championships.

The Division II world championships have been played in their current format since 2001, when Division II was formed from the five lowest-placing teams in Pool C, and the seven best teams from Pool D.
