• P開頭的是阿福做的
  • P1 - 是根據英文版修正而來, 也是依據書生的期望將按主題瀏覽的panel收起,此外,修改了welcome panel,讓他更簡潔明瞭,最後,還有兩個panel被收起,分別是"歷史上的今天",與"關注焦點"
  • P2 - 是根據希伯來文版修正而來, 這是依虎兒的期望做的, 有大幅度的layout變化, 主要是加強了按主題瀏覽的介面美化,加上了較大的icon,設計者希望能使用code將該category中的圖片random在icon上面,不知是否異想天開哉...
  • P3 - 試著將特色條目作明顯的突出, 將欄位的比例和色彩稍作改變
• M開頭的是Mkn做的, 目前還不知道他中文程度到底如何? 不過他都用英文跟大家講話就是了...
  • M1是三欄版,有月曆和節氣等
  • M2是兩欄版
• Mo開頭的是Moses做的
  • Mo1 - 基本上是結合了阿福的P1版參考英文版並結合現有版面而成. 將跨語言連結放入左側導航條. 右上角有多语言版页面连接. 試圖儘量減少頁面長度.
  • Mo2 - 是Mo1的圆角版本(Fx下),使用另一配色方案.
• T是虎兒做的
  • T1基本上是從P2改的。那些可愛的icon是從希伯來文版來的，換了底色。把姐妹計劃併到上面。跨語言連結是放在導航條，不過只有超過1萬條的，其他的透過在右上角的wikipedialang連結可以找到。歡迎詞也改短了。最後要說的是，因為虎兒不太懂html語言，所以要感謝microsoft frontpage，還有很多地方可以改進。
  • T2是從T1改的，只是左右對調。這是因為有許多人都說習慣從左邊讀起，所以把特色條目等欄位調到左邊。

我是有些直來直去的人。我總覺得分三欄比較晃眼（加上左邊維基logo下的連結欄就是四欄了）。節日、季節題目似乎可以合併到「四月的題目」裡。月曆好像沒大必要，看起來像blog似的，尤其上方又寫了「網絡日誌」的字樣。綜合參考依舊放在主題檢索裡較好。當前時間其實不用分日期與時間。中文維基百科不用註解英文，一是不中立之嫌，二來我覺得也無必要。扔下一些負面的意見，還請包涵。--roc (talk) 21:16 2005年4月19日 (UTC)

Dear Mkn,

I just realized that both of your user page and user talk page were written in English, I am not sure if you read Chinese, so I should better translate my previous comments into English. Also, I am a quite straightforward person, and I hope you do not mind my boldness.

My first impression on the new design is that there are too many columns – up to 4 if you count the left one with menus under the Wikipedia logo. The two boxes of holidays and seasonal topics can be combined into one titled as “Topics for April”. I do not see a need for the calendar, it also gives a “blog” feeling, especially when it is under words of「網絡日誌」(web logs?). A lot of new zh users misunderstand Wikipedia as a blog-like thing, although it is absolutely not. I still prefer to have the box 「綜合參考」(general references?) within the subject index box, as it is rendered in the current public version. I also prefer to read only the UTC time, instead of reading UTC date and time. In addition, I do not see a point of putting English words “CHINESE WIKIPEDIA” after the Chinese title, it also raises concerns over POV.

Regarding HTML authoring, I like to specify font-size with a relative number such as 90% or 1.2em, instead of using absolute points or pixels. I often need to enlarge fonts on the screen because of my poor eyesight, and the former methods give better effects and maintain the original design better. BTW, I use FireFox instead of MS IE because it is friendlier and complies with W3C standards. I also prefer using templates for different modules instead of writing the codes directly into one file. In this way, it is easier for more people to update the main page.

I also like to use div’s than table’s to control formats. table’s should be reserved for real tables that contain meaningful data instead of being misused as formatting tools. This helps many screen readers (for blind or bad-sighted people).

For example, for the first few lines of your new page, I would probably write like this (using only XHTML+CSS):

Hi, I'm trying to improve the design of the main page for the Chinese wikipedia (no offence, but the current main page is ugly)

• I just tried to align the main articles for easier viewing.
• Added a side panel which I hope can provide visitors with more useful links to look at such as what's going on this month? events, festivals, seasonal topics, etc.
• I also wanted to add the old Chinese calendar related topics with horoscope but I don't really understand them (see Japanese wikipedia's main page)
• The "other languages" and "sister projects" take up too much space on the page. So I moved the sister projects into the side panel and removed the "other languages" (better to just link to metawiki since it's not important)

Sorry my Chinese is not so good. I hope you can use the new design and alter it to make the main page more useful and nicer to look at. -- Mkn 09:44 2005年4月8日 (UTC)

Hi Mkn: Thanks for your suggestions. :) The idea of putting calendar-related information did crop up in the Village Pump some time ago (see Wikipedia:互助客栈#要不要在首页加上农历的年月日期), but the discussion seems to have died out. I guess we're all waiting for someone to write a bot that would take care of this. :)

Also, about seasonal topics — my impression is that this is a rather "Japanese-y" thing, and probably not very suitable for the Chinese Wikipedia.

I hope your comment about the seasonal topics is not stemming from anti-Japanese sentiments and patriotism which seems to be the case in China these days. When I was making the Main page suggestion, I drew inspiration from the Korean, Japanese and European portals.

When I included the calendar, it seems natural to include links to articles related to the time period such as what festivals (around the world) occur in the current month and also what topics are related to the current season. Does this not seem logical to you? How is this "Japanese-y"? How is this "not very suitable for the Chinese Wikipedia"? Hence my impression of a racist remark on your part. (By the way, no offence is intended, but I think there's no shame in taking inspiration from other portals)

I have also helped with the Main page layout on the English version of Wikibooks. Since I'm not good at writing content, I pretty much just try to help with improving design. -- Mkn 00:06 2005年4月10日 (UTC)

Hi. Mkn, I saw your design. It is a big change to zh wikipedia. I am the 'ugly' vision designer. Well...not layout setter (they mainly want the layout to be similiar with en wiki), but the icon provider. The thing I did last Oct is only change color and provides icons (with extra request: chinese style) I don't have too much freedom as you did such a big change. The main page history was running through many zh wiki people's different opinions, especially THE FONT SIZE. Meanwhile, I am not active to re-design the main page that time. The only reason is I might be first person there said I have design background on user page.

Anyhow, that is the brief history. If you really want zh wiki's main page follow your design. You may need to create a vote page. Descript your concept and be duty to finish the possible remodify request. I was suffering by that for over two weeks. Then they don't even have a conclusion...Finally, one active guy just update it.

So, according to the history, you may meet two problems. one is FONT SIZE. one is the Chinese style. In my point of view, small font is just perfect for me. At the first look, your layout was too complex on right panel. Also, you forget to design by using main page templates. template effects the layout, you know...

I don't know how to say Chinese style right. Briefly, it has to deliver a feeling of China culture. That's all I can say.--阿福( Talk) 16:30 2005年4月10日 (UTC)

我感觉P2版面的效果不错，只是如果保留了首页上：

这些内容，还是很有用的，毕竟我们要照顾到新人嘛！

• 剛剛看了英文維基,上面已經沒有"特色圖片"的欄位了,又找了一下,發現他們把特色圖片改放到"社區"當中,其實這樣也不錯啦!還有"關注焦點",也同樣都放到"社區"當中了,我覺得蠻值得參考的,其實我們要把什麼欄位放在main page,我是不介意,但整體版型簡潔一些我覺得比較有"進化"的感覺--阿福_Talk 12:31 2005年6月5日 (UTC)

== 新首頁圖標 == 移动自Wikipedia:互助客栈 看到虎兒剛剛上傳的來自希伯來文的各科圖標，很是精美，要是能用在首頁上就太好了。不過有幾個圍繞自我中心的問題：Image:P economy.png中是「新以色列施葛」（New Israeli sheqel）的照片，我們中文版是不是可以用其他的一些圖案表示經濟？比如古代的刀幣、或者不帶地域色彩的價格曲線、或者其他。Image:P religion.png（宗教）中，太極圖能不能移到頂部？Image:P geography.png（地理）中，能不能以東經120度為中心（先再的地球圖案只能看到新疆和西藏的一角吧）或者用地理的測繪工具或者等高線圖或者其他？Image:P literature.png（文學）的圖案，是不是有些像翻開誦讀的經書？我知道我的意見可能吹毛求疵，並且可以指為本國或本族沙文主義，另外，修改圖片還要保留原有的美觀，實屬不易。不過我想誠實地提出一些觀點，看看大家的想法如何，以及可能的改進方法。有關的圖片放在下面（其他本文未涉及的精美圖片沒有列出）。--roc (talk) 06:29 2005年5月15日 (UTC)

試作了一個地理圖示，第一次用Paint+Photoshop從空白開始畫圖，很多功能竟都不熟悉，比如調色。比起現在的希伯來文版的圖示，差很多，但我的眼睛已經又紅又痛了，所以放棄進一步的努力，把現有的版本放在這裡，希望能被大家修改得更好。--roc (talk) 08:38 2005年5月15日 (UTC)

我也觉得应该尽量体现中华文化（不是中国呀）的，所谓“古色古香”的。当然，我是眼高手低，自己不会画图的啦。不过可以出点创意。ROC说的“刀币”就很不错，另外地理可以用“长城城墙”，文化可以用“太极图”，科学可以用“罗盘”，等等等。。。--Hamham 10:06 2005年5月15日 (UTC)

我也是眼高手低，因為沒有經驗，畫一個地球竟費了好幾個小時，搞的我今天的覺又廢了；最討厭的是底下的那個橢圓，花了我一會功夫才找到gradient的畫法，並且因為這個gradient，圖像需要用256色，如果只有地球的話，16色就滿夠了，文件大小可以控制在2k之內。經濟圖示，最簡單的方法是畫一個折線圖。簡化的圖展示如下。--roc (talk) 13:11 2005年5月15日 (UTC)

我也去看了一下，這個IE果真爛。印象中是IE處理PNG透明層的一個著名問題，不過確切的描述我也不清楚。作為背景信息，我作的第一個圖（棕色經緯地球加灰階橢圓）也使用了透明層，用Photoshop6的Save for Web存為最終版。--roc (talk) 14:39 2005年5月15日 (UTC)

图案一共有（注意希伯来文是从右向左）：

• 数学 - 希腊字母pi（可以换成勾股定理图案，可能比较美观一点）
• 物理 - 原子结构示意（可以直接采用）
• 化学 - 锥型瓶，内有液体（可以直接采用）
• 天文 - 土星 + 一颗小五角星（可以直接采用）
• 电脑 - 屏幕（可以直接采用）
• 生物 - 蝴蝶（可以直接采用）
• 医药 - 蛇杖（可以直接采用）
• 地理 - 地球，正面为欧洲及非洲（可以直接采用，或者换成亚洲及澳洲）
• 社科 - 女人、男人、儿童图案（可以直接采用）
• 经济 - 以色列钱币（可以换成中国古代货币，如刀币）
• 政治 - 古典欧式建筑（可以换成中式建筑，如故宫）
• 历史 - 西式挥剑骑士（可以换成中式的）
• 宗教 - 大卫星、十字架、新月、太极图（可以把太极图移上来）
• 犹太教 - 带大卫星图案的经书（这个不知道该换成什么？）
• 以色列 - 以色列国徽（可以换成中港台地区或中华文化圈，图案为长城/龙/汉字）
• 音乐 - 1/16音符（可以换成中国传统乐器，如琵琶）
• 文学 - 一本摊开的书（可以直接采用）
• 人物 - 头像侧影（可以直接采用）
• 艺术 - 蒙娜丽莎（可以换成中国古代艺术品，如马踏飞燕）
• 体育 - 奥运五环标志（可以直接采用）

颜色是众口难调的。个人而言，使用沉重一点的颜色也许会体现百科全书的份量感（最好是黄铜色），而淡雅的色彩让人心情舒畅。两者都挺好的啦。--Hamham 08:25 2005年5月16日 (UTC)
