It all began with the famous 「Flying Tiger」Air Force Team in Mainland China during World War II. The 「Flying Tiger」was created by U.S.Air Force General Claire Chennault in 1946. It later became the Civil Air Transport (CAT), then the Air Asia Company Limited. It has been a professional and experienced aviation repair station to date. During the previous more than fifty years since its inception, Air Asia has performed over 12,287 repairs in both commercial and military aircraft, which were to including overhaul and testing on over 7,900 different engine types. This service record is the hallmark of Air Asia’s reputation of high esteem in the market. In 1994,the Taiwan Aerospace Corporation （TAC） acquired Air Asia and made it a subsidiary. The Chairman of Air Asia is Mr. Jack T. Sun and Mr. James Y. M. Chen is the President & CEO. Air Asia has been accumulating ample maintenance experiences and achieved the great honor from many customers for its outstanding maintenance performance.
The lineage of Air Asia Company Limited is traced back to the year of 1946 when General Claire Chennault famed “Flying Tiger” during the World War II organized an airline of cargo transportation in Mainland China for the China National Relief and Rehabilitation Administration, which was commonly known as CNRRA.
In 1948 the name was converted to Civil Air Transport and franchised by the Civil Aeronautics Administration of Republic of China. CAT, along the name, moved with the Nationalist Government to Taiwan in 1949.
In 1955, CAT was regrouped into two Chinese registered companies：Civil Air Transport Company Limited which primarily engaged in scheduled airline operations, and Air Asia Company Limited, the maintenance center of a corporate complex headed by Air America.
In February 1975, Air Asia became a fully owned subsidiary of E-Systems Inc., a Texas-based corporation that engaged in the development and production of electronics systems and products, as well as a provider of aircraft maintenance and modification services for government and commercial requirements.
In July 1987, Air Asia’s shares of stock were taken by Mr. Bill Monkman, a major stockholder of Precision Air motive which was a U.S. corporation engaging in aviation industry that specialized various engines and components work.
In March 1989, Air Asia switched the ownership and turned into an entirely individual company of its own with Mr. C.S. Chen as the Chairman of Board of Directors.
In September 1993, Air Asia shifted the ownership as all shares of stock were transferred to the First Taiwan Investment Banking Group with Mr. F.D. Chiu being the Chairman of Board of Directors.
On December 01, 1994, Air Asia became to be a subsidiary of the Taiwan Aerospace Corporation.
In November 1996, Air Asia Established the Vertical Flight Center which is the only one helicopter maintenance facility obtained the authorization from Bell Helicopter Company.
In April 2000, Air Asia is the first Taiwan aviation company who acquired the ISO 9001 & ISO 9002 International Quality Standard Organization Certifications.
In 2001, Air Asia Founded the New Wide Body Aircraft Maintenance Hangar
On December 6, 2004, PhD Morgan Tsai has assigned to be chairman of Air Asia Company Limited.
