Nickelodeon

From Wikipedia, a free encyclopedia written in simple English for easy reading.

Nickelodeon is an American cable television channel that is made for children. It was started in 1979 as Pinwheel. The late morning-afternoon lineup is Nick Jr., which plays learning shows for younger children, while the older ones are in school. At night it changes into Nick at Nite, which plays re-runs of older shows, that parents watched when they were younger.

Some shows that have aired on Nickelodeon include:

  • Clarissa Explains It All
  • Rugrats (Nick's longest running show, with a thirteen-year run, and also the most popular until SpongeBob SquarePants broke the record. Two spinoffs, All Grown Up and the yet-to-be-seen Suzy and Angelica's Preschool Daze, have followed.
  • Doug
  • Ren and Stimpy
  • Double Dare
  • You Can't Do That on Television
  • Salute Your Shorts
  • Hey Dude
  • Charlie Brown
  • Beetlejuice
  • Sharon, Lois, and Bram's Elephant Show
  • Count Duckula
  • Eureka's Castle
  • Welcome Freshmen
  • Muppet Babies (Nick Jr.)
  • Weinerville
  • CatDog
  • Cousin Skeeter
  • Animorphs
  • Rocket Power
  • The Wild Thornberrys
  • Space Cases
  • Kenan and Kel
  • Nick News

The station also makes an educational magazine (Nickelodon Magazine) and has events and specials every year.

[edit] Other uses of the name

  • The term Nickelodeon refers to the old-style moviehouses of the early 20th century.
  • It was also the name of a 1976 movie from Columbia Pictures, with Ryan O'Neil, Burt Reynolds and John Ritter (from Three's Company) in lead roles.
