Jackie Chan - Simple English Wikipedia

Jackie Chan

From Wikipedia, a free encyclopedia written in simple English for easy reading.

Jackie Chan (成龙) (born on April 7, 1954) is an actor, director, stuntman and singer from Hong Kong. He is famous for his action-comedies. He also appeared in the Jackie Chan Adventures TV series. He is the father of actor Jaycee Chan.

In his earlier roles Chan performed all of the death-defying stunts without safety equipment. Possibly the role where this was taken furthest is Rumble in the Bronx (his breakthrough American movie) where he subjected his already ageing body to several leaps and falls which, while finally gaining his American stardom, led to injuries including a broken ankle.

His two worst injuries occured in filming Armour of God and Police Story respectively. Footage of the former's aftermath was shown over the credits and depicted a subdued and bloodied Chan in a spinal injury stretcher. A tree branch he was to swing off snapped when he leapt for it and Chan fell 10 metres onto rocky ground.

In Police Story Chan engaged in a stunt whereby he fell five or six storeys through a series of window canopies. The unpredictable nature of the stunt caused Chan to become disorientated halfway down. Instead of landing on his feet Chan tumbled to a head down poistion and his arms became tangled in the material of the last awning. He landed headfirst and as his body followed his head was wrenched to the side as he was unable to break his fall with his arms.

While the Police Story fall looked more injurious on film, the Armour of God fall has been identified by Chan as the closest he has come to death while filming.
