• 1– This year was numbered by Dionysius Exiguus, who followed Christianity. He chose this as year one AD, because he thought it was the first year of the life of Jesus from a town called Nazareth. Historians now think Jesus was born up to four years before.
• 8–23: Wang Mang overthrew Han dynasty of China
• 28–75 Emperor Ming of Han, Buddhism reaches China
• Masoretes adds vowel pointings to the text of the Tanakh
• Buddhist monks in Sri Lanka first write down Buddha's teachings, creating the Pali canon
• Tacitus mentions the Suiones, who will one day be called the Swedes.
• Kaundinya, an Indian Brahmin marries Soma and establishes the Pre-Angkor Cambodian Kingdom of Funan.
