Hi I'm Sholto.

Born 1973 in London, living in Australia, relational affinities with South Africa and  Zimbabwe.

Education:

• Secondary at Ballarat High School.

• Undergraduate in philosophy, and  environmental science at Monash University.

• Graduate Diploma of Education at the University of Melbourne

• Postgraduate Diploma in philosophy (logic) at the University of Melbourne

Currently studying

• Advanced Diploma in industrial computer science at Swinburne University of Technology

Current employment

• I'm very pleased to write that I've just started working with an  Australian environmental auditing firm Village Green:

  "a privately-owned organisation, specialising in sustainable business management and  change processes for the small business and  retail sectors."

• Through Village Green I'm afforded the opportunity to research the prospect of developing commercially viable automated environmental accounting software incorporating emergy methodology and  solar energy transformation ratio as a base reference standard. I noticed that the entry on embodied energy was small & incomplete, talked about the concept of "emergy", and  had my CSIRO article as a reference. On that basis I thought I would contribute what I know about embodied energy and  the emergy synthesis paradigm & nomenclature.

My personal view of embodied energy and  emergy paradigms is  that they are  emergent methodologies. Although they seem to be important, I do not endorse them. I seek clarification, explanation and  demonstration.

Background: I have  been researching embodied energy, in particular emergy, for about 8 years. it  is a difficult discourse because it  involves technical expertise in many areas of science and  society. Adding to the difficulty is  that alot of the literature is  not available here in Australia, even at our best universities. Moreover many people in this field are  self taught, thus there are  few formally recognised courses available in Australia.

Motivation: If it  is true that a high level of literacy in the emergy methodology is  important for global economic, energetic, and  ecological sustainability then it  seems that we are  obliged to have  the algorithms clearly and  rigorously stated and  freely available to the world's human population. But whether or  not this is  true is  moot.

Strategy: My strategy was to put up, and  contribute to what I view as relevant Wikipedia entries, and  then fill them out as time permitted, hopefully with others contributing also. However this 'scattergun' approach of multiple articles, in hindsight, was probably ill fated - load resistance too high to maintain maximum power!!. Wiki is  a good learning medium!!
