Stelele strălucitoare sunt acele stele pe care le vedem ca emit lumină fie pentru că sunt foarte strălucitoare, fie că sunt aproape de noi sau ambele. Magnitudiea aparentă măsoară luminozitatea pe care o putem observa cu ochiul liber, pe când magnitudinea absolută ne indică luminozitatea reală a stelelor.
