[edit] Disturbed genre

Hello. I've reverted your edits to Disturbed, since discussion about the genre has already took place, and any changes to the article regarding this topic should be argued and reference before any changes are made. I just wanted to let you know, and invite you to join, or more reopen, the existing discussion. - - 'twsx'talk'cont' 00:33, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Help!!!

{{helpme}}

What do you need help with? You can answer by editing this page; you might also want to check the Frequently Asked Questions to see if your problem is solved there. --ais523 18:09, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

Well, i got a problem, i helped to develop a page on Mallcore. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mallcore). But everyday, different people with no talk page come and erase stuff that are useful (trivia, pictures, etc...) and do not post anything on the talk page. When a member actually had a talk page, I sent him/her a message. However there was no reply... I do not know how to put the vandalism thing, but i do not know if there is another way of solving the problem...

My other problem is that I have somewhat of an argument with an editor over the Disturbed page. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disturbed). There is definite disagreement about the band's musical genre. However the article states that the band is Heavy Metal (which i, as well as many people throughout the word, disagree). I wrote a statement that informed the reader of the disagreement (you can check the history and the discussion page of the article). However, twice (or three times, can't remember) this statement was erased and a very stubborn editor argumented that what i was saying was wrong and that what i wrote degraded the band's reputation. I then put a tag for factual accuracy and a tag for neutrality. It was erased by the same stubborn member, and i re put the tags and stated my reasons on the discussion page. However i still think that this member is going to erase them... could you help me?

Thank you in advance,

Zouavman Le Zouave 18:20, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

There's a list of possibilities that you can try in Wikipedia:Dispute resolution. If an article's coming under attack from new users and anons you could also try Wikipedia:Requests for page protection. If you have any further questions put {{helpme}} back up; I have to go now but it's likely a different user will show up to answer the question. --ais523 18:24, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] RE: Help!!!

Hello, this is the "stubborn member". I think the problem is divided into 2 things:

  • 1: What is the genre?
  • 2: Should the disagreement amongst fans and haters be mentioned?

About problem one. This question has been discussed on the talkpage. Arguments were exchanged, and references were added, giving sources from people who know more about metal music than either of us.

Two, should it be mentioned? No, why? There are dozens, or hundreds of bands where people do not agree about the genre. So how is it solved? People discuss it, mention sources, and change the article into whatever came up from that discussion. A bands article is supposed to give the closest information possible. If there is a very common point of view saying there are critics or a disagreement, it is fair to say so in the article. This is not the case in this article.

Also I would like to remind any authority reading this to have a look at mister Zouavman Le Zouaves contribution history, it clearly shows that he or she is more on a personal crusade enforcing his opinion rather than making articles better. For me, he or she shall absolutely make Mallcore or Music that i hate or I hate that band Disturbed and at such articles write as many things about Disturbed as he or she wants, but definitely not in reverse. I hope this will make things more clear. Stop filling the article with malicious defamations or adding tags (no matter if anonymous or logged in), that is all that i care about. What is now written in the article is based on what people think who are superior to you, me, or an admin, such as the Rolling Stone Magazine (arguably) and Ozzy Osbourne (inarguably).

PS: As you can see above on this discussion page, i did try to talk to you. - - 'twsx'talk'cont' 19:44, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
PPS: If you are avaiable on a messenger such as MSN or GTalk, or on IRC, I am absolutely willing to talk to you there. - - 'twsx'talk'cont' 19:48, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

There is a very common point of view saying that Disturbed musical genre is not metal, but sources vary saying that it is either: "pseudo-metal", "pseudo-rock", "crap", "mallcore", and others... In an encyclopedia I think that Mallcore is the most appropriate term. I am not changing the genre, i am just stating the point of view of many people. The reason that they do not come on this page is that they probably got better to do than deal with the reputation of bands that they do not consider metal. If you want sources, i can find some.

And how do you dare make assumptions about my intentions on Wikipedia judging from my contribution history? I do not hate "that band Disturbed". I actually think their music has certain qualities which makes them popular for a good reason. I do listen to "10,000 Fists in the Air" and quite appreciated it. However, I would not consider them Heavy Metal. Please note that I did not take any party on the statement made on the Disturbed article. I only stated the disagreement. On the other hand, you are a known Disturbed fan and you have reasons for considering any criticism to them "malicious defamations". Now I did not deny the fact that Ozzy considered them "Heavy Metal", but I stated that many people (who probably know more about metal than either of us) also do not consider them Heavy Metal (or Hard Rock by that same occasion).

Again, i do not appreciate the way you say "Mister Zouavman Le Zouave" or declare that i am on a "personal crusade to enforce my opinion". Nothing permits you to do so. And you shall not tell me what articles i shall or may create/edit. Nothing forbids me to edit the Wikipedia Articles unless what i am doing is destructive, which is definitely not the case.

I can't remember to have been asked a question that i need to reply to. I think i made myself and my point clear throughout this and the articles discussion. Added you on MSN by the way. - - 'twsx'talk'cont' 15:47, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Aarni

Great work on the Aarni article. I had it on my to-do list, but I'm glad you got there first as mine would've been a lot shorter. Prolog 23:51, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

I don't know much about Aarni, so I was surprised how much info you had found. I can't e-mail you because This user has not specified a valid e-mail address, or has chosen not to receive e-mail from other users. Prolog 00:06, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

Hi, I was going through certain users' profiles, and I found that they had some sorts of templates used to display information about themselves (like there level of a certain language, etc...). I would like to know how this is possible. I looked through the FAQ for a long time, but i could not find it.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Z.L.Z.

I believe your looking for Userboxes. -Royalguard11(Talk·Desk·Review Me!) 18:14, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks thats exactly what i needed!

[edit] WikiProject Metal

Hello, to become a member of the project, just go here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Metal and add your name to the bottom of the list. It's as simple as that. Just keep checking back on the page to see what needs to be done.

And don't worry about the layout of your page. Mine is a much bigger mess, due to the irregular formation of the userboxes! :) By the way, I made a small grammatical edit to your userpage. Hope that's ok! In Flames 19:39, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

You're welcome! I hate all this rubbish nu-metal/metalcore as well. Some time ago, on the List of Heavy Metal genres page, I kept moving the nu-metal and metalcore sections to the "related" part of the article, to show they are related to metal (yeah right!), but not real metal. Unfortunately someone kept reverting my edits so I gave up.

The sources I can think of are websites like http://www.metalreview.com where lots of people bash nu-metal/metalcore CD's, and the http://www.DarkLyrics.com forum, where people insult bands like Avenged Sevenfold etc. Unfortunately, I don't think this validates - as Wikipedia demands proper sources, like reviews from Professional critics. Another source would be http://www.metal-archives.com, where the website doesn't accept terrible "mallcore" bands.

I don't see how bands like KoRn and Slipknot are considered metal, when they don't play solos, have simple song structures, scream incessantly, have hip-hop influences in it (!) and rap as part of vocals. Bah. In Flames 22:21, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

"The last part of the introduction of the Disturbed article really disturbs me" - nice pun :) The genre of Avenged Sevenfold is annoying as well. By the way, what do you consider "mallcore"? I never use the term myself, but I assume you mean Nu-metal and Metalcore - generic MTV metal. However, do you like other types of rock?

Marilyn Manson - extreme black metal?! Not only is the word "extreme" redundant (as black metal IS an extreme genre anyway), but I find it hard to call Cradle of Filth black metal, let alone EXTREME black metal, let alone call Marilyn Manson metal. I think we could try and find other Wikipedians who would be willing to tweak the genres of some bands, but the majority will probably demand sources anyway.

Can your gmail address be used with MSN messenger?

Oh, by the way I am a teenager. So not all of us love nu-metal/metalcore :) In Flames 00:27, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Blocking IP

I am on a computer in a school where all computers apparently use the same internet line... Someone on another computer has been blocked (vandalism), and for some reason I am blocked too... I am asking for a way to "unblock" my account. Thanks in advance... --Zouavman Le Zouave 10:17, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

When you try to edit, you should see something that looks an awful lot like this -- when you do, please make use of the {{unblock-auto}} template that's mentioned somewhere around halfway down, in the "autoblocked?" section. See WP:AUTOBLOCK for more information. Luna Santin 11:37, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Article names

Hello again! Thanks for putting a note about Nihil (Impaled Nazarene album on WP:HMM. You can rename pages yourself by clicking "move", writing down the new title and reason for renaming. I've fixed this one now. Prolog 13:26, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Boo

Hello, just thought I'd comment on how nicely your user page has developed! (Ok, yes I'm procrastinating, but so what?!) In Flames 23:10, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Mallcore

I removed it because it is not an "Emo themed" store. Emo is a genre of music that has been pretty much dead for the past 10 years. --Inhumer 01:13, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

Then please show me proof that that the store is "Emo Themed". The bands you think are Emo, which I assume are bands like My Chemical Romance,Fall Out Boy, and Hawthorne Height are Pop Rock. They have nothing to do with the Emotive Hardcore Punk scene that started back in the early 1980s.--Inhumer 00:40, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

Well,I believe that for those bands "Emo" is more of a marketing term rather than an actual genre name. --Inhumer 09:14, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
