That external link seems to be some site running MediaWiki software and using cc-by-sa (at least for text contributions). The image is also available as zh:Image:Zhou_xuan.jpg, without source or license info. (Note: the extlink does not appear to be a mirror of our own zh: wiki.) Lupo 09:27, 17 October 2005 (UTC)

Based on [1], where she wears the same dress, I think we may assume this image to be a publicity shot of the 1930s, which also seems to match her apparent age on that image. Since the image is unlikely to have been published or copyright registered in the U.S. and was out of copyright in its home country prior to January 1, 1996, we may assume this image to be in the public domain in the U.S., too. [edit] Licensing

Public domain
This image is now in the public domain because its term of copyright has expired in China. According to copyright laws of the People's Republic of China (with legal jurisdiction in the mainland only, excluding Hong Kong and Macao) and the Republic of China (currently with jurisdiction in Taiwan, the Pescadores, Quemoy, Matsu, etc.), all photographs enter the public domain fifty years after they were first published, and all non-photographic works enter the public domain fifty years after the death of the creator.
This image was uploaded under good faith using the above tag: however, it may be under United States copyright if it was first published on or after January 1, 1923, as the Republic of China had copyright relations with the United States at that date.[1] All images created or first published in the People's Republic of China on or after 1946-01-01 or in "Chinese Taipei" on or after 1952-01-01 are automatically protected by United States copyright.[2]

This image is in the public domain in the United States. In most cases, this means that it was first published in the United States prior to January 1, 1923 (see the talk page for more cases). Other jurisdictions may have other rules, and this image might not be in the public domain outside the United States. See Wikipedia:Public domain and Wikipedia:Copyrights for more details.
