Zhambyl Province

Zhambyl is a province of Kazakhstan. Its capital is Taraz. The population of the province is 962,000; the city is 330,000. The province borders Kyrgyzstan, and is very near Uzbekistan. Zhambyl also borders three other provinces: Qaraghandy Province, South Kazakhstan Province (Ongtüstik Qazaqstan), and Almaty Province. The total area is 144,000 square kilometers. The province borders Lake Balkhash (Balqash Köli) to its northeast.
