You was originally recorded for Ronnie Spector, who didn't end up using the track. The backing was recorded in 1971 with the help of Ronnie's ex-husband Phil. In 1975 Harrison simply recorded his own vocal over the track and released it on his Extra Texture (Read All About It) album.
