Yellow Pig's Day
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Yellow Pig's Day (July 17) is a humorous celebration observed by some mathematicians, most notably at Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts. It is marked by exchanging gifts relating to yellow pigs or mathematics, singing yellow pig songs, and playing ultimate.
Yellow Pig's Day was started by Michael Spivak and David C. Kelly. Michael Spivak also includes references to yellow pigs in each of his published books as Easter eggs.
The largest celebrations are held at Hampshire College, where David Kelly maintains an extensive yellow pig collection. In 2006, the school held a Yellow Pig Math Days conference, as part of the Hampshire College Summer Studies in Mathematics program.
