[edit] Boxing statsbox

Um, why did you go in and erase my templates on the boxers? Adding additional information is great, but please follow the standards. We're trying to get some uniformity on the succession boxes. —Chowbok 21:41, May 24, 2005 (UTC)

Sorry,Chowbok. I was not sure what the templates were.I will recover the last eddition of Vitali Klitschko.I just wanted to make articles of boxers more particular.Yappakoredesho 08:32, May 25, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Redundant categories

Yappakoredesho, I think your articles on kickboxers are just great, keep up the good work. However one of the approaches we use on Wikipedia is to keep the number of overlapping categories to a minimum by using subcategories that have lots of parent categories. For example, Category:Japanese people is a parent category of Category:Japanese sportspeople. Also, the Category:Men is for articles about men in general, not specific men. Regards, --Hooperbloob 05:55, 15 July 2005 (UTC)

All right. I got it. --Yappakoredesho 25 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] MMA project

Some issues. Wouldn't "Mixed martial arts" be a better project than "Mixed martial artists"? That way you can have the promotion articles and others under the project too, not just articles on people. I suggest you just move the project page. Also the "Martial arts" project probably has some relation, maybe a parent in addition to sports? Also quite a few typos in the project page.
Lakes 12:28, 25 August 2005 (UTC)

I reverted your changes to the template. Please discuss changes to it in its talk page.
Now a few points.
  • If you add items to a template you first have to go through every page that uses it, and fix them beforehand, otherwise all the pages will be broken.
  • Also making the template items more complicated serves no purpose, since those won't be visible on the pages that use them anyway, and only make writing pages that use the template more complicated.
  • I also don't see any reason in changing "Mixed martial arts record" to "Record", since the people can have other records too. For example in amateur wrestling, boxing, kickboxing, and so on.
I don't have a problem with having more items in the statsbox, but please discuss them beforehand.
Lakes 15:12, 17 September 2005 (UTC)

Thank you for your good advide. I repplied in talk page of MMA statsbox.

[edit] Image:Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.JPG

This image looks like a promotional image to me. How do you know it is released under the GFDL? Can you please post some more descriptive information about its license status on the talk page? Thanks! --Ryan Delaney talk 12:17, 4 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Muhhamed Ali vs Antonio Inoki.jpg

Hi, would you please add your source for this photo and also explain why it is licensed under GFDL? It is very unusual that photos from the 1970s are licensed under GFDL. Thuresson 07:45, 6 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Boxing statsbox

When you duplicated the MMA statsbox you missed the subparts. You also need to duplicate Template:MMAstatsbox/image for example.

Also don't take this the wrong way, but I don't think your level of English is enough for contributing to the English Wikipedia. There are many grammar and spelling errors in the Hozumi Hasegawa.
Lakes 19:25, 7 October 2005 (UTC)

Thank you for your kindness,Lakes. By the way, I really want to know which errors you are talking about. Can you represent wrong parts in articles which I have written? --Yappakoredesho 20:45, 7 October 2005 (UTC)

Sure thing. "is a Japanese boxer who is a current WBC world bantamweight champion now." should be "is Japanese boxer who is the current WBC world bantamweight champion." When talking about current champions there usually is only one, so "the" is used instead of "a". "Current" also implies "now".
"He debut as a professional boxer" should be "debuted".
"He beat Veeraphol Sahaprom and stopped his 15th defence of his title in April 16,2005." I don't understand this sentence. Who is "his" referring to, Sahaprom or Hasegawa?
I would use defeated instead of beat, although beat is not incorrect, defeated just fits better.
"Stopped his 15th defence" What do you mean here? To stop a defence says to me that the match was somehow ended prematurely.
In a sentence you should have a space after a comma (,).
In the boxing statbox you use "Alias". Nickname is the correct term. Alias is used when the name is used to hide the real identity of the person, nickname is an additional name. You're also missing an "o" from "No contests". You also have missing letters in your talk page, "It is ony to copy and pase it." in the top.
As a side note, you should probably make the "died" item in the statsbox optional like the image one.

[edit] MMA template

Yeah, sorry about that. Just completely forgot.
Lakes 17:17, 21 October 2005 (UTC)

On second thought, why am I apologizing? There was no previous guide that was out of date. You're being rude, although I can't tell if it is because of the language barrier.
You should add Template_talk:MMAstatsbox to your watchlist if you want to keep up with changes.
Lakes 17:27, 21 October 2005 (UTC)
You seem to misunderstand something.
First of all, I did adding MMA statsbox to my watchlist for long time ago.
Secondly, I'm not talking about MMA statsbox, I am talking about the record table. And I couldn't find any dicussion about it and its template. That is the reason why I said it is unkind to participants in the future (not only to me).
Have you had a clear apprehension of my message? By the way, you don't have to be worried about language barrier between you and me unless you use slang because I have spent 4 years at a British school in Kent, the UK. Yappakoredesho 14:38, 23 October 2005 (UTC)
Well I was under the impression you were talking about the record section of the MMAstatsbox since I had recently modified it. Were you talking about my edit for Randy Couture's match listing? I was only cleaning up the list that was there, the format is certainly not very good and should not be any kind of standard. I hadn't noticed the the record section in the project page. However I don't think that box is complete either.

[edit] Question

Why do you have such a passion in bashing on kumdo when you are not a student of any type of sword martial arts?...

I don't know why at all. Somehow they claim that my view biased even after all I eddited the article based on historical archive.
when you are not a student of any type of sword martial arts?...

I have learned kendo for 2 years. If you want to see my eddition, see history of kumdo article.

Could you sign when you write a message please. Copy and paste this "--~~~~" in the end of your message.

Anyway, I will add some information of kumdo in the article later. If you want to see the relationship between kendo and kumdo, I suggest you visit a following homepage.

--Yappakoredesho 17:39, 1 December 2005 (UTC)

If you did learn Kendo for two years, doesn't it teach to humble to others? It seems like you hate all Kumdo students when some of them, such as me, does not claim we have the history claimed in your 'websites'. (Sorry but I don't really trust geocities) I just want to study Kumdo because of my background, I'm full blood korean, my masters do not think Kumdo is better than Kendo. (I'm sorry I didn't sing in for that part) --Eugenius 05:16, 3 December 2005 (UTC)

OK, what I said in talk page of kumdo artcle was that I can not understand why some kumdo organizations insist Japanese kendo came from korean kumdo in North America, and why kumdo organizations have to make up a fake history about their origin.

If you are going to leran kumdo, you should know following facts.

  • There was no skill which handles swords with both hands before 1910 in Korea. The old Korean soldiers fought with a sword and a shield. The sword skills of modern Korean kumdo is completely different from Korean tranditional swords skills.
  • Protectors, bamboo sword in kumdo were almost same as kendo's. Did you know that the origin of bamboo swords (called shinai) was invented by Japanese master Kamiizumi Hidetsuna(上泉秀綱、1508-1577)?

I wonder why kumdo has to imitate kendo though Korea has its own swords skills which is completely different from Japan's. Why kumdo has to use 剣道 the term instead of using 大韓剣術 like that.I was told to humble to others when I learned kendo and karate, however I do not think I should be humble to people who are making up a nonexistence tranditional culture and distort history to harm our culture. Do not misunderstand, it doen not mean I hate all koreans. I am saying that it is no good to make up a nonexistence tranditional culture and distort history. I suggest you should reserch about kumdo before you say that you can not trust assertions from Japan.

Thanks.--Yappakoredesho 14:12, 3 December 2005 (UTC)

I think because of the brutal history between Japan and Korea has brought this much of a heated arguement. I do kumdo but I'm not saying that we invented it. Both my masters agree to that too. But look at soccer/football. Its called soccer in the U.S. but more commonly known as football in Europe? Any debates there? No. I am not attacking anyone but suggesting we just drop it. [edit] Image Tagging Image:Karate.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Karate.jpg. The image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the image qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. -- Carnildo 09:35, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

Sorry, I forgot the source of that image, and it is fair-use not public domain. Please delete it as soon as possible. I will take an original photo instead of images on web when it is possible. -- Yappakoredesho 09:45, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Kickboxing image problem

Hi,

Your replacement image for Kickboxing.jpg is a great photo but is not allowed on Wikipedia. As you yourself noted, it's copyrighted 2005 to someone, "all rights reserved". You can't just grab photos off the Web and upload them to Wikipedia using the 'fair use' tag.

I marked the image as "no license". In future, please only upload images that are licensed under the GFDL or in the public domain.

Tempshill 22:53, 13 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Kickboxing.JPG

Thanks for uploading Image:Kickboxing.JPG. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me or ask for help at Wikipedia talk:Image copyright tags. Thank you. -- Carnildo 13:28, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Regarding Infobox Boxer

Please don't use hiddenStructure. Also, the change you made changed the meaning of a few existing parameters (for example, weight now seems to mean their literal weight, but many pages place the boxers weight division (heavyweight, etc) in that field), and introduced two mandatory ones that none of the pages I checked had defined. If you'd like I can help you move away from hiddenStructure though, but if you haven't already, you might want to ask about making these kinds of modifications to the infobox. —Locke Cole • tc 20:44, 19 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Succession box

I do not think that merging Template:Succession box into Template:Championshiptitle makes sense. Template:Succession box is used on Wikipedia for all types of succession, such as political positions or awards. I prefer using Template:Succession box in boxing articles because it is more flexible and informative. Template:Championshiptitle is gives only champion-to-champion information. Template:Succession box is better for showing multiple titles going to or from one person (all at once) and also for information about title vacancies. -ArcTheLad 04:17, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Azem Maksutaj.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use.
