X-Ternally Yours

This episode of X-Men is about Gambit's homeland and the guilds that he became a part of. It also introduces us to Bella Donna, Gambit's bitter ex-fiancee and his brother Boddy.

In this episode Gambit, monitoring Cyclops as he trains in the Danger Room, gets a call from the Thieves Guild about the kidnapping of Boddy by the guild's enemies, the Assassins. This pose a problem, as Boddy is the Thieves Guild's "chosen one" for a decennial tribute to the The External, the date of which has come. If Boddy isn't at the designated area to present the guild's tithing to the X-Ternal that night, all of the guild will be wiped out. The shock of this news causes Gambit to accidentally bump Cyclops' training program to max difficulty, unknowingly putting the X-Man leader in danger before Rogue is alerted to Cyclops' plight by Cerebro and shuts the simuation off. Unwilling to get himself involved with the guilds again, but unable to leave his brother to his fate, Gambit returns home without informing the rest of the team, where he soon learns that the kidnapping was a trap set by the Assassins and their "chosen one", Bella Donna...in more ways than one. First, Bella used the kidnapping to lure Gambit into her clutches and force him into completing the aborted marriage they were to have right before he left to join the X-Men (they had believed their marriage would, in a similar manner to Romeo and Juliet, bring their feuding guilds together, but youthful recklessness and the intollerance of the guilds foiled their plans); secondly, unknown to Boddy or the rest of the Thieves, the tithe Bella gave him upon his release was a fake, thus ensuring their destruction at the hands of the X-Ternal, when the time came.

Fortunately for Gambit, the rest of the X-Men follow him back to the bayou, and with Gambit's help, successfully confront the Assassins at the designated place and time and expose their deception. Before the Thieves could get their revenge, however, the X-Ternal arrives to accept her offerings, but is unaware of the Assassins' betrayal, thus declaring the Thieves' and their tithe unworthy to remain existant. Gambit and the X-Men attempt to appeal to the X-Ternal and explain what happened, but are rebuffed as unwanted interlopers, until Jean forces a telepathic link with the X-Ternal, forcing her to see the truth. Realizing she had been duped, the X-Ternal declares the Assassins and Bella Donna her enemy, and appeals to the Thieves for what their punishment should be. Boddy insists that the guild be destroyed, but Gambit overrides him, declaring that there had been too much blood spilt over the guilds' feud and their dedication to the X-Ternal; instead, he asks for Bella to be stripped of her powers, which the X-Ternal obliges. Now left at the mercies of her obsession, Bella pleads to Gambit to not leave her, but Gabit refuses, insisting that he is an X-Man and a part of neither guild, and that he will never return to the bayou. Gamibt is then chided by his fellow X-Men for running off without telling them, putting more rifts in their relationship.

Meanwhile Magneto and the professor are stuck in the Savage Land where they encounter some problems of their own.
