[edit] Nick Smith

Nick Smith joined the FOX 29 team in January 2005. Nick co-anchors the 5 to 6am news on "Good Day Philadelphia," then hits the street to cover the morning news for FOX 29 viewers.

Prior to joining FOX 29, Nick covered hurricanes Charley, Danielle, Frances and Jeanne for the ABC owned-and-operated stations and affiliates during the 2004 hurricane season. Nick has worked in Boston, and was an entertainment reporter/host for E! Entertainment Television. He reported for The Weather Channel, World News Now, "Live! With Regis and Kelly," and had his work appear on World News Tonight with Peter Jennings. He moved to Boston from North Carolina, where he was a general assignment reporter for the ABC 11 Eyewitness News Team at WTVD-TV in Raleigh, N.C., from August 2002 to August 2004.

Nick's introduction to television began as an enlisted member of the United States Army. Assigned to the 7th ATC in Kaiserslautern, FRG, his responsibilities included both the illustration and production of training videos and electronic news gathering support for the Armed Forces Network. After receiving his honorable discharge, Nick completed an AA from Santa Rosa Junior College and a bachelor's degree in American studies/political science with a minor in mass communication from University of California, Berkeley.

As an undergraduate, Nick interned for KRON in San Francisco and competed on the national level as a multiple award winner and Captain for both Santa Rosa Junior College and UC Berkeley's Intercollegiate Forensics Speech and Debate Teams, respectively. While working toward his master's degree at Emerson College in Boston, Nick worked as a photographer/truck operator for WPRI in Providence, RI, and anchor/reporter of Emerson College's award-winning WEBN news team.

Nick and his family live in the Society Hill neighborhood of Philadelphia. He can be found jogging regularly as he trains for his first half-marathon. Nick is an avid fiction reader and a huge fan of the television shows "Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel," "The O'Reilly Factor" "Judge Judy" and "The Shield".

According to the November 13, 2006 edition of NewsBluezette, the online newsletter of newsblues.com, Nick Smith was escorted out of WTXF's studios the previous week after being unable to come to terms on a contract extension, and Smith's bio was subsequently removed from WTXF's website.
