Wrestle Zone Wrestling (wZw) is an independent professional wrestling promotion based in the United Kingdom.
[edit] History
Wrestle Zone Wrestling was created in 2002 by Gary Graham and Carl Turner. The two then promoted their very first show "Domination" on 30 November at the Gateshead Leisure Centre.
Wrestle Zone Wrestling would return to the scene in March 2003 with the "Explosion" event. Also around this time, wZw opened the doors of its very own training school called the "Nu Breed Wrestling Academy", where youngsters attempted to follow their dreams to become professional wrestlers under the eyes of Gary Graham, Carl Turner and fellow trainers Iceman, and Tony Spitfire.
Wrestle Zone Wrestling soon gained in popularity, and found a second home away from home in the form of Whitley Bay and it's Residents' Club. The organisation also started holding shows on a regular basis, with either one or two shows a month. The promotion would also begin debuting new match types, such as the Four Corners of Hell match, and brought in wrestling legends including Jake "The Snake" Roberts and Mick Foley.
In the spring of 2004, co-owner Gary Graham announced that he was retiring from Wrestle Zone Wrestling. This left Carl Turner (who wrestled under the alias of GTS) to take a step back from full-time competition, and focus more on the backstage politics of what shapes a professional wrestling organisation. As a result, wZw took a three-month hiatus, before returning to Whitley Bay for a return show.
At the beginning of 2006, wZw started running shows every week which saw the debut of an array of talents from other North Eastern promotions. World of Sport veteran Johnny Kidd also featured on a show in Shildon when he took on "Mr. Saturday Afternoon" Tony Spitfire.
In September 2006, American wrestler Tracy Smothers defeated Lance Thunder for wZw's UK Heavyweight Championship, but later relinquished it upon his return to the United States.
