Talk:Wold Newton family

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tarquin, I'm afraid this is a bit of Alan Moore's stuff I am entirely unfamiliar with; would you care to do this please?user:sjc

I've not read it myself, it's just one of those bits of pop culture I've picked up by osmosis. Alan Moore's TLOEG mixes up Holmes, Jekyll, Mina from Dracula and a few others (Moriarty, I think). -- Tarquin

Sounds very Alan Moore. I enjoyed V for Vendetta immensely and kind of lost track, dunno why. I'll see if I can look out a copy. Was it recent? user:sjc

Thanks, Tarquin. I have managed to get hold of a copy from a local secondhand comics shop. Looks fascinating. I'll save it for when I go on holiday, though. user:sjc

If you go to the www.pjfarmer.com, you'll find a mind-boggling amount of Wold Newton material that's just crying out for its own Wiki.

[edit] Category for WN characters?

Should there be a category for Wold Newton characters, as a sub-cat of Category:Wold Newton? There's certainly plenty of literary figures out there to populate the category. I have no issue with getting started on it, but I wanted opinions first.

  • Upon further consideration, it would probably be more efficient to simply make a list page. A list can also include supporting characters who are not important enough to warrant their own pages. I haven't found any existing WNF list pages, so I'm going to start putting one together. I should have a meager list eked out by the end of the day. Will link to this article.

I found this on the above mentioned page:

Comment. I'm not sure that you could do that, since your website seems to be licensed under Creative Commons. I could be wrong here, but I think that you need to have GFDL to be able to have content from Wikipedia. I agree with several editors above in that I think that creating a Wold Newton wiki on Wikicities would probably be the best solution, in which case you could just transwiki this article to it. ergot 15:31, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

This is a misunderstanding. He can use it on his website, he just has to have a notice on each of the page(s) using Wikipedia content that says they're GFDL rather than the CC license he uses on all the others. Also, the requisite credit to Wikipedia. Andrew Levine 13:47, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

I checked Wikia, and there isn't a WNF one as yet. Anyone else interested in a Wold Wikia? I agree with the above idea that Farmer's ideas be foremost. Perhaps a distinguishing feature (Type face or color, perhaps both) should be used to distinguish Farmer's concepts (he has had several articles published, and stories set in his (The ORIGINAL) Wold Newton Universe. ---Icarus 23
