William Edward Childs

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

William Edward Childs (generally called "Billy Childs", born March 8, 1957) is a jazz pianist and composer from Los Angeles. While a student at the University of Southern California, Childs played piano with Freddie Hubbard. However, in 1978 a faculty member discouraged this so he could pursue composing. (After graduating from USC, he returned to playing piano in Hubbard's band for six years.)

He has written two pieces for the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra. He is sometimes associated with more "European" jazz.
