Willi Wülbeck

Willi Wülbeck (born December 18, 1951 in Oberhausen) was a German 800 metres runner who won the gold medal at the 1983 World Championships in Helsinki. Wülbeck ran a time of 1:43.65 which is still the current German record. He also won ten West German championships over 800 m in row (1974-1983); an unprecedented achievement. At the 1976 Montreal Olympics Wülbeck came fourth. He missed the 1980 Moscow Olympics due to the West German boycott and could not participate in the 1984 Summer Olympics because of an injury.
