Currently, there are no officially adopted guidelines for musician articles. This page is for proposing guidelines, until a structure is decided upon. Please see the proposals below. Input is always appreciated.

Instructions
To propose a guideline, please edit this page and use ==={{ subst:Talk sect 2|section name }}=== to create a new section under the Proposals section which will automatically link to a section on the talk page where your proposal can be discussed. Please make sure to add this section to the talk page as well. If appropriate, your proposal section can be a subsection, but it should have a unique name, and the section on the talk page should be top level (H2, i.e., ==).

Please do NOT respond to proposals on this page. Please use the talk page instead. The section title for each proposal on this page should contain a link to a like-named section on the talk page where you can discuss the proposals.

[edit] Proposals

[edit] WP:FMP

We should make sure that article guidelines here are compliant with anything defined in Wikipedia:Featured Music Project. B.Mearns*, KSC 21:21, 30 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Salary, RIAA cert

Would there be any objections or disadvantages of including the artist's salary, the number of records sold, and/or RIAA certification of albums? Once again, it will be optional. It's not included right now, so I guess I'm making a suggestion. Unionbay 17:41, 20 March 2006 (UTC)

I did a revised infobox template design, {{Infobox musical artist 2}}, which uses its own color scheme and a smoother visual appearance. I had to throw out entirely the idea of color-coding by genre , because of the fact that it is impossible to make sure each genre color can potentially match each band color (unless neutrals are used entirely for one or the other). I wanted to have the color-coding be something like Template:Superherobox, where you have one strip for the type of act and anthoer for the type of genre. Oh well. I have more examples at User:FuriousFreddy/notes2.

The color scheme would be as follows:

khaki (#f0e68c) All vocal solo artists (includes singer-songwriters and singer-instrumentalists)
lightcoral (#f08080) All non-vocal instrumentalists
lightgreen (#90ee90) All producers, songwriters, arrangers, engineers, and other non-performing personnel
lightskyblue (#87cefa) All groups, bands, crews, or other non-classical music ensembles
paleturquoise (#afeeee) All orchestras and other classical music ensembles
plum (#dda0dd) Cover and tribute bands (same as Wikipedia:WikiProject Albums' color for covers/tribute albums)
darkgray (#a9a9a9) Temporary collaborative projects

Tell me what you think. --FuriousFreddy 22:05, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Page layout

This maps out a typical artist page from start to finish. A tempplate based on the hundreds of articles I've worked on.--Esprit15d 19:57, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Discography section

The page layout discussions are coming along nicely. But the biggest bone of contention appears to be on the layout for the album section. I am going to show a few of the popular methods of album discography on wikipedia, and participants can chose the versions they think are accetable.--Esprit15d 13:34, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Rock family tree

Would there be any objections or disadvantages of including the artist's rock family tree? Once again, it will be optional. There are other much less diagrammatical ways that this information is in various musician's and band's articles at this time, so I guess I'm making a suggestion. --luckymustard 21:36, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
