[edit] Scope and Goals
Fine or visual arts is one of Wikipedia’s comparatively weakest subject areas and content about contemporary art, in particular, is scarce. Many potential ‘expert’ contributors – artists, theorists, critics, etc. seem to want to use Wikipedia, but in a manner that tends to conflict with its encyclopaedic function and neutral point of view.
At the time of writing, entries on contemporary art tend to be stubby, inaccurate, and to have sections put in that seem to be motivated heavily by an anti-postmodernist or anti-academic slant. It is not our goal to ignore the controversy that still surrounds contemporary art, but to help collect that controversy in coherent sections of relevent articles on general topics within postmodernism, and to give a sense of the larger debate. Ideally, resources on contemporary art within Wikipedia will be useful both for a generalist who is seeking to better understand contemporary work in the humanities, and by, say, a first year graduate student looking for a resource to help stay afloat in an intro theory class. To this end, we need contributors ranging from people working professionally in the field of contemporary art to laymen who can point out that we've descended into hopeless jargon.

[edit] Project Outline
Outline agreed upon by participants I really recommend the PBS.org website. They have a series on contemporary art called ART 21. I think this would be a good starting point on our participants discussion on contemporary art.-Art4Humanists

Hi, Selina, I think "The Practice" really misses much of what is happening in contemporary art. What I mean is "The Practice" overloads on theory, and the personal experience with art is lost. I feel a better starting point for our discussions is we all take a look at PBS.org website and check out their series on ART 21, and have a discussion about what happens there.-Art4Humanists

Although i'm no scholar in contemporary art, i'm particularly interested in the potential possibilities of this project. We need you to create a community for contemporary art, make it active and make this project a place where people can share thoughts on artists, exhibitions, art tours, or individual pieces.
Hi, Samantha, I really recommend the PBS.org website, click on their ART 21 and I think it is a great way to begin discussions on contemporary art. -Art4Humanists

Welcome. To introduce myself my degrees are in art history and studio fine art. Currently I am active as a visual artist, more to the point I am a contemporary artist of the post modern era, an american, who paints, oil on canvas, represented by a gallery in New York City; I will be having an exhibition in December of this year in Chicago. You are all invited. Please see my user page for discussion or email me at: art4humanists@operamail.com
