What to Do When You Are Dead
(2005)

What To Do When You Are Dead is the second album by the band Armor for Sleep. It is a concept album with each song telling a story. In this case the death of the main protagonist and his journey through the afterlife. Initially he is unhappy at his situation as a ghost but the story ends with the acceptance of his death and moving on to whatever follows. Initial copies of the CD came with a bonus DVD that features live footage of the band, music videos for the songs My Town and Dream to Make Believe and also a 'making of' documentary of this CD. Also with the CD, was a little booklet entitled What To Do When You Are Dead: A Comprehensive Guide to The Afterlife which features ways to cope should you find yourself unexpectedly dead. If you skip back one song before the first song, Car Underwater, you will find a short (approx. 1.25 minutes) hidden song in which the main character of the story talks of his death before he commits suicide in "Car Underwater". The hidden track is an acoustic track.

The story begins in Car Underwater in which the main character commits suicide by driving his car into a body of water. We learn that he is suffering because of the loss of a girl that he had loved, as she somehow broke off the relationship. The rest of the album is then the clarity that comes after death and the protagonist looking back on his life and mistakes. The album's themes include the unpredictable impact of suicide and the fact that our problems are fleeting but the suicidal decision is eternal. It is obvious that the main character greatly regrets his decision to kill himself and wishes that he could be back with the girl that he left behind. However, by The End of a Fraud the protagonist has finally accepted his death and is able to move on.
