What are Little Boys Made of?

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

What are Little Boys Made of? is a popular nursery rhyme:

What are little boys made of?
Hammers and nails, and puppy dog tails,[1]
That's what little boys are made of.
What are little girls made of?
Sugar and spice, and everything nice,[2]
That's what little girls are made of.

David Bowie uses a modified line from this in the song "Magic Dance" from the Labyrinth soundtrack.

Slime and snails or puppy dog's tails

[edit] Notes and references

  1. ^ In the original Mother Goose printed in 1916, the phrase was "Snaps and snails, and puppy dog tails". Sometimes "Snips and snails" is also seen. In the UK, the phrase is more commonly said to be"Slugs and snails, and puppy dogs' tails". Other common variations include "Snakes and snails", "Spiders and snails", and "Frogs and snails". There are likely many different regional variations.
