It was covered by Tin Tin Out and Emma Bunton, and released as the second single taken from Tin Tin Out's album Eleven To Fly (1999) and the first single from Bunton's solo debut album A Girl Like Me (2001). It was released in the autumn of 1999 in the UK.

Tin Tin Out and Bunton's version debuted and peaked at number two on the UK Top 75 Singles, losing the battle against former co-Spice Girl member Geri Halliwell's "Lift Me Up." It sold 106,000 copies to get to number two in its first week and around 215,000 copies altogether. "What I Am" was the eighty-eighth best seller of 1999. Audio sample
