[edit] Structure
Wesley has three day campuses - the original campus in Prahran (named the St. Kilda Road Campus from 2004 onwards), and campuses in Glen Waverley and Elsternwick - and a residential campus in Clunes. Being the first registered school in Victoria, Wesley College Melbourne has a rich tradition of liberal, broad based education.
The school caters for students from kindergarten through to Year 12, and offers the Victorian Certificate of Education, IB Diploma Programme and Vocational education (VET) programs for Senior College students. Its motto sapere aude means 'dare to be wise'.
As of 2006, Wesley College has introduced a new school structure which will see the Senior School comprising of students from Years 10 - 12, the Middle School from Years 5 - 9 and the Junior School comprising from Prep to Grade 4.
[edit] Clunes Campus
Wesley College Clunes is a residential campus located near Ballarat in Victoria. Year 9 students spend 8 weeks living in a house with other students in a village. Students are responsible for cooking, cleaning, shopping, washing and also participate in many courses throughout the term including voluntary work, art and craft, drama and music. [1].
[edit] Controversy
In August 2005, an internal investigation was launched after a parent reported to the school that she believed her child's Year 5 class had been helped to cheat on a national AIM standardised literacy test by a classroom teacher. The story was covered by Melbourne media, and it was revealed that the teacher had given her students an identical test to the AIM exam a day before to improve their scores. Wesley College reported the breach in regulations to the Victorian Curriculum Assessment Authority as soon as management became aware of the issue. [2] [3] On the same day as the story broke in Melbourne media, the head of the St. Kilda Road campus resigned, in a move widely reported as connected to the cheating incident. Wesley College teachers publicly criticised the school's Principal for the way in which the resignation of the campus head, a member of the staff for over 20 years, was handled at the same time as the cheating scandal despite being entirely separate. [4]
