[edit] History

Founder members of the Cymru Alliance in 1990, finishing second in 1993 and 1996. As champions Oswestry Town were not eligible for promotion, Welshpool took their place in the League of Wales in the 1996-1997 season instead, finishing 17th.

Next season Welshpool Town were relegated and stayed in the Alliance until winning the competition in 2002 to regain Welsh Premier status. In the 2002/2003 season they finished next to bottom, but appealed against relegation to the FAW, because Neath AFC were denied promotion as they failed to meet Welsh Premier ground criteria. To the surprise of many, they were reinstated in the League for 2003/2004.

In the recent 2005/2006 season, the club finished 6th in the League of Wales, after what is regarded as their best season in the league to date.

[edit] Current players

Dave Cunnah (Midfielder)
D.O.B. 25/2/75
Height 5"9 Weight 12st 4lbs

Dave was born in Gwersyllt, Wrexham.

Dave started his footballing career playing for local junior teams, before spending a brief spell at the Crewe Alexandra F.C. Centre of Excellence at age 13, along with fellow Ysgol Bryn Alyn pupil and future Welsh International Robbie Savage.

In July 2001, after a few years at Cymru Alliance team Lex XI F.C., Dave joined the club now named NEWI Cefn Druids F.C. in the League of Wales.

Although Cunnah played a big role in getting the Ancients to the semi-final of the Welsh Cup for the first time in 98 years with the winner against Halkyn United in the last 16, he was actually suspended for the Bangor game.

After three seasons and 71 WP appearances for the Wrexham based club, Dave left in April 2004 seemingly disgusted with club's sacking of manager and good friend Steve O' Shaughnessy

In July 2004, Dave joined Welshpool Town F.C., along with Jimmy Hunter and the Jefferies twins.

On 16 September 2005, Dave made his 100th career League of Wales appearance playing against Connah's Quay Nomads F.C.

Earlier in September 2005, Cunnah turned down an approach to join Roger Preece's Newtown

The following season, 2001-02, has been Jefferies most successful by far, scoring 16 goals in 28 Welsh Premier appearances on his return to Flexsys Cefn Druids, finishing as the Ancients top scorer as they reached the semi-final of the Welsh Cup for the first time in 98 years.

Ross' 2002-03 season was a stop-start affair as after joining Unibond League club Colwyn Bay F.C. and then swiftly onto Bangor City, he spent nine weeks in prison for an alleged assault. The day after coming out of prison, Ross netted two goals in a Bangor City win over Port Talbot Town F.C. at Farrar Road.

After 24 appearances in 2003-04 for Bangor City, ten of which were starts, Ross joined Welshpool Town F.C. in July 2004, along with twin Brett and good mates Dave Cunnah and Jimmy Hunter.

In March 2003, he signed for Flexsys Cefn Druids, scoring a last minute clincher at Park Hall Stadium against Oswestry Town F.C. the day before his 23rd birthday.

The 2003-04 season was a sensational for Aden, scoring a hat-trick against Afan Lido F.C. on 7 September and four goals against Welshpool Town on 24 January. Despite personal problems halfway through the season and unsubstantiated rumours of a rift with Cefn manager and friend Steve O'Shaughnessy, Ade scored 19 goals in 21 Welsh Premier starts that season.

He left Cefn following the surprising dismissal of Steve O'Shaughnessy in 2004.

In 38 Welsh Premier appearances, Aden has scored an impressive 18 goals

In the summer of 2000, he joined Oswestry Town F.C. managed by Steve O'Shaughnessy, along with twin Ross and elder brother Ryan. After 23 WP appearances in 2000-01, scoring twice, Brett joined Flexsys Cefn Druids.

After an injury hit season in 2001-02, Brett really hit his straps the following season running away with the Player's Player and Supporters Player of the season with Druids in a season which saw him make 26 WP appearances, scoring once.

In 2003-04, Brett scored four goals in 23 WP appearances with Cefn before leaving at exactly the same time as the surprising sacking of manager and good friend Steve O'Shaughnessy.

In the summer of 2004, Brett joined Welshpool Town F.C., along with twin Ross and good friends Dave Cunnah and Jimmy Hunter.

In 40 WP appearances for Welshpool Town F.C., Brett has yet to score.
