Wellington Central (electorate)

The Wellington Central electorate is a seat in the Parliament of New Zealand, representing the central area of Wellington city.

The seat was established in 1905 when the multi-member urban electorate City of Wellington was abolished and replaced by three new seats: Wellington East, Wellington North and Wellington Central.
In 1993 a boundary redistribution resulted in the abolition of the seat, which was then known as Wellington - Karori, but was renamed Wellington Central for the 1996 election following another re-drawing of boundaries due to the introduction of Mixed Member Proportional (MMP).
A documentary was produced on the 1996 election campaign [1] by Tony Sutorius.
