[edit] Development

Black Industries, the role-playing game publishing arm of The Black Library, which is itself a part of Games Workshop fielded out the development of Warhammer 40,000 Roleplay (commonly refered to as 40KRP) to Green Ronin Publishing, the same company that created the new edition of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay (WHFRP2).

The game is still in playtest for an estimated release at GenCon 2007, and other than the fact that it will share many design features with WHFRP2, the development team has leaked few specifics.

[edit] Background

40KRP shares the same dark, gothic background as the Warhammer 40,000 tabletop miniatures game. Though the game should eventually branch out to cover the various races of the 40K universe, the initial releases will concentrate on humanity, specifically agents of the Inquisition.

[edit] Core Game Books

Much like White Wolf Publishing's older version of World of Darkness, 40KRP will have multiple game books, each with the core rules, but varying in subject and relative power level.

  • Warhammer 40,000 Roleplay: Dark Heresy: the first game of the series will focus on Inquisitorial Acolytes of relatively low power level, and concentrate on corruption, mutation, and other heretical subjects.
  • Warhammer 40,000 Roleplay: Rogue Trader (working title): the second game will cover Rogue Traders of higher power levels, and branch off into xeno mercenaries, starships, and other perils of travel both in- and out-side the Imperium.
  • Warhammer 40,000 Roleplay: Deathwatch (working title): the last game of the series will finally allow player to adopt the role of the mighty Space Marines, pulling out all the stops on PC power levels.
