Wherever possible, you should cite your sources and use verifable and reliable sources. Personal interviews and experiences are generally not acceptable. However, if the information is not controversial and is not intended to promote a biased POV, it is not such a serious problem--though be aware that editors may remove unsourced assertions. So your best bet is to try and identify some published sources for the information. Familial experiences are probably not encyclopedic though, so those should probably be left out unless mentioned in some verifiable source.
